In short, Mastercard this time... but Visa last time... (which uh, how hard it is to pay for things on the internet without a credit card) has decided to flex its control in a way that has shut down literally hundreds of artists' work under the guise of "think of the children!!!", predominantly via the platform Patreon.
I'm aware of dozens of artists, a few of whom are strictly safe-for-work or PG13 at most, (e.g. pinup style art), who within the past month had their galleries nuked, conversations with customers nuked, and funds in their accounts siezed. More broadly, some people who do actually post nudes are also reporting being nuked with no explanation given, and there's some mention of it possibly being race and gender-identity motivated. When examining Patreon's policies, even full-on nudity is fully allowed... but tons of people who were in full compliance with the written policies were mass-deleted in a few separate waves over the last few weeks, with the only message from Patreon being "we decided, you can't appeal this, and we're keeping your money".
